The Eastern Maar Aboriginal Corporation (EMAC) incorporated under the Corporations (Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander) Act 2006 (CATSI Act) is an ‘Agent’ Registered Native Title Prescribed body corporate established to hold, manage, protect and promote the laws, culture and traditional rights, interests and aspirations of the Eastern Maar Traditional Owner Group. EMAC is also a Registered Aboriginal Party (RAP) for the protection, preservation and management of Aboriginal Cultural Heritage, per the Aboriginal Heritage Act 2006, within the EMAC RAP Boundary Areas.
About the role
CONFIRMED HIRE DURING COVID-19 – *Immediate hire opportunity*
A primary focus of the role will be supporting a partnership approach with the Department of Environment Land Water and Planning (DELWP) for developing the Great Ocean Road Coastal Trail. This includes representing, liaising, and organising advice from Eastern Maar Elders and citizens and acting in a secretariat role to the Eastern Maar project working group.
The role will work with the Eastern Maar project working group to develop a cultural landscape plan, embed Eastern Maar stories and maximize economic participation opportunities through employment and procurement, all of which are cornerstones of Eastern Maar’s community articulated Country Plan, Meerreengeeye Ngakeepoorryeeyt.
Key roles and responsibilities include:
Be EMAC’s operational point of contact for Great Ocean Road Coastal trails project related matters, including:
– Representing, liaising, and organising flow of advice from Eastern Maar Elders and citizens.
– Working with DEWLP to develop, facilitate or coordinate any collective and common planning and project initiatives related to the Great Ocean Road Coastal Trail (and other trails in Eastern Maar Country).
– Working with other organisations and/or consultants to develop, facilitate or coordinate any collective and common planning and project initiatives related to the Great Ocean Road Coastal Trail (and other trails in Eastern Maar Country).
– Support the planning, coordination and delivery of activities or actions agreed by the Parties, including but not limited to opportunities provided by the planning, construction, and operation of the Great Ocean Road Coastal Trail for Eastern Maar peoples. These may include input or development to various trail related activities or opportunities such as: Aboriginal businesses and/or employment; Trail brand; Naming opportunities; Story telling.
– Promoting, educating and advocating for EMAC (and the members and Eastern Maar community it represents), it’s ways of working and aspirations and assertions
– Participate in Great Ocean Road Coastal Trail (or other trail) related activities, meetings or forums (as required) to support EMAC Elders and members to participate in decision making about trails on Country as well as supporting ongoing collaborative communication and engagement on other relevant land management matters.
– Ensuring reporting obligations are met under the Coastal Trails focused funding agreement
– Work with EMAC employees, its members and Eastern Maar community where applicable, on Coastal Trail activities.
– Develop and maintain relationships, as well as represent EMAC, relevant agencies.
– Manage logistics and requirements for running effective engagement activities on Coastal Trail matters with EMAC, its members and community, and agencies.
– Providing advice on opportunities, challenges and issues

Skills and experience
ESSENTIAL
– Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with demonstrated experience of working collaboratively and influencing across multiple stakeholder groups.
– Sound project management skills with demonstrated ability to take initiative and manage issues.
– Demonstrated interpersonal, communication, and facilitation skills, including demonstrated success in engaging and maintaining strong relationships with diverse stakeholders.
– Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
– Highly developed verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to conceptualise and communicate ideas using a wide range of tools.
DESIRABLE
– Tertiary qualification in project management or equivalent discipline.
– Experience working with Aboriginal people, including a demonstrated ability to communicate and engage sensitively and effectively with Traditional-Owner led communities and organisations.
– Demonstrated understanding of the regulatory framework in which EMAC operates.
OTHER POSITION REQUIREMENTS
– The incumbent requires the ability to travel regularly for work related purposes. A current Victorian driver’s licence is essential.
– Proficiency in the use of computer and telecommunications technology.
